The NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) rating system is widely used in North America. NEMA ratings provide a standardized way to describe the protection level an enclosure offers against environmental factors. The NEMA ratings range from 1 to 13, with each number corresponding to specific environmental protection characteristics. Some common NEMA ratings include::

NEMA 1: Indoor Use: Provides a basic level of protection against dust.
NEMA 2: Indoor Use: Similar to NEMA 1 but with additional protection against dripping and light splashing of liquids.
NEMA 3: Outdoor Use: Designed for outdoor use and provides protection against windblown dust, rain, and sleet.
NEMA 3R: Outdoor Use: Similar to NEMA 3 but intended for outdoor use and provides additional protection against ice formation.
NEMA 3S: Outdoor Use: Similar to NEMA 3 but designed to withstand external icing.
NEMA 4: Indoor/Outdoor Use: Provides protection against water splashing, hose-directed water, and windblown dust.

NEMA 10: Indoor Use: Designed for indoor use and provides protection against dripping and light splashing of liquids.
NEMA 12: Indoor Use: Provides protection against dust, dirt, and dripping non-corrosive liquids.
NEMA 13: Indoor Use: Similar to NEMA 12 but offers additional protection against the spraying of water, oil, and non-corrosive coolants.

IEC Enclosure Types:
The IEC system is an international standard for classifying the degree of protection provided by enclosures around electrical equipment. The IEC enclosure types are designated by an IP (Ingress Protection) code, consisting of two digits. The first digit indicates protection against solid objects, while the second digit indicates protection against liquids. Common IEC IP codes include::

IP54: Protection against dust (5) and water splashes from any direction (4).
IP65: Dust-tight (6) and protected against low-pressure water jets (5).
IP67: Dust-tight (6) and protected against immersion up to 1 meter in depth (7).
